Austria traditionally has been active in "bridge-building to the east," increasing contacts at all levels with eastern Europe and the states of the former Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy. Austrians maintain a constant exchange of business representatives, political leaders, students, cultural groups, and tourists with the countries of central and eastern Europe.

Green Paper on Urban Mobility

On 25 September 2007 the European Commission adopted the new Green Paper on urban transport "Towards a new culture for urban mobility".

The Green Paper sets a European agenda for urban mobility, while respecting the responsibilities of local, regional and national authorities in this field. The Commission wants to launch a discussion on how it can best enable the development of a new culture for urban mobility in Europe.

A major new drive for improving awareness of intelligent vehicle systems and their road safety benefits was announced today. This new platform to promote awareness brings together stakeholders from the public sector, automotive suppliers and users.
