"Advance Stronger. Together"

Austria holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of the year 2018. The Presidency follows three objectives in the area of research, technology and innovation policy: Firstly, supporting the negotiations of the Ninth Framework Programme on Research and Innovation "Horizon Europe". Secondly, aspiring council conclusions on the European Research Area (ERA) and, lastly, supporting sectoral politics through research and innovation.

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) organizes twelve Presidency events (of altogether 40 in the area of research, innovation and technology). These events entail expert, stakeholder and scientific conferences, as well as meetings of (senior) officials - with the number of participants ranging between 60 and 6000. All twelve BMVIT events embrace the RTI priority programmes energy, mobility, security, information and telecommunications technologies, production as well as space technologies. Besides representatives of the Austrian government, there will also be high ranking representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as of the European industry and business sectors partaking in the events.

All twelve events support the RTI-relevant political focal areas of the BMVIT and contribute to achieving the objectives of the Austrian Presidency of the Council. Moreover, all events are organized in full accordance with the Austrian eco-label's criteria for green meetings. Many of the events seek to actively involve citizens by putting items on the agenda which strengthen the interactions between citizens and politics.
