From 30 June 2020, Austria allows the use of the 700 MHz frequency band for terrestrial systems capable of providing wireless broadband electronic communications services under the harmonized technical conditions set by the Commission in accordance with Article 4 of Decision No 676/2002/EC (see Frequency Utilization Ordinance (in German only: Frequenznutzungsverordnung) FNV 2013, Federal Law Gazette II No 63/2014 as amended by Federal Law Gazette II No 390/2016 and Spectrum Release Plan – Schedule of Future Frequency Awards).
Necessary cross-border frequency-coordination agreements within the Union required for using the 700 MHz frequency band have been finalised (see Executive Summary of Technical Report "Frequenztechnisches Gutachten – Erstellung eines Räumungsszenarios des 700 MHz Bandes"). The availability of the UHF band below 700 MHz for the terrestrial provision of broadcasting services, including free television, and for use by wireless audio PMSE on the principle of technological neutrality is also ensured from the point of view of national authorities.
