The promotion of intermodality and the intensified use of combined transport are of utmost importance for the establishment of competitive alternatives to road transport. Therefore Austria has been introducing early measures for the support of environment friendly modes, such as rail or combined transport.
In 2016 the "Internationale Salzburger Verkehrstage" will again host its international Ideas Competition for Students. We want to provide young people with a forum to present their innovative and visionary ideas for future mobility in front of an international and specialized audience. Students of all fields with creative ideas for future mobility are welcome to participate. You will find further details in the attachment.
Mobility is a basic societal need and is crucially important for the development of the economy, our standing as an industrial location and for society as a whole. Mobility needs are increasing dynamically and it is essential that the rapidly growing volume of traffic is managed in a way that is sustainable, green and socially just.
Announcement by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit):
As of 21 December 2007, following enlargement of the Schengen Area, permits for road haulage consignments entering, exiting and transiting through Austria will no longer be subject to checks at Austria's borders with the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.
